This co-working method helped me stay focused

April 14, 2022

Burnout is the number #1 startup killer.

I've made 180k through past projects (ex-Stanford), but every time I hit a rut, I'd fall into a weird slump, feeling lonely and unfocused throughout the day. Some days, I'd wake up, watch netflix, masturbate, then sleep. :'(

I tried pomodoro, time trackers, PM tools, etc. Still ended up burning out :(

I met this other isolated founder Robert. He also shared the same problem, even though he went to WeWorks everyday ---he felt lonely/unfocused/blocked. So we started co-working together on a call.

Compared to pomo -- Both of us felt WAY more energized and work actually feels good. The bonus was that whenever we got stuck, we got to hit each other up, ("Just finished the website, not sure if it makes sense"). And share wins ("OMG I just got my first paying customer--- OKAY here's what I did")

We do a 5 min standup, then go into deep work for 50 mins. Then we debrief for 5 mins on how our tasks went! Over time, other founders started co-working too. In person too! They helped me through personal + startup problems too.

There's ample evidence to show coworking improves health, focus, and creates relationships (win win win). Def recommend checking out other communities, but the one I'm part of is a paid community called https://founderscafe.io -- Lots of founders from Stanford, YC, and other cool backgrounds

I'm building Founders Cafe because as a solo founder, it can be very isolating. Last year, I lost 4 co-founders and a best friend on a previous startup.

Previously built a Minecraft Server ($61k), Amazon Store ($120k), and Queer Chart, where I met my girlfriend & close friends.

If you're interested in joining the Founders Cafe, let's talk and if it's a good fit, down to invite you!
